ABOUT

Samuel Edward Mac (he/him) is a UK and Canada-based director who grew up in Asia and the Middle East. His work explores stories about outsiders, social satire, and the power of imagination. He has directed short films, spots, music videos, episodic content, and VR experiences.

His short film, Face (2021), “a striking journey of a young person finding the strength and courage to stand up for himself...and a homage to both the enduring craft and appeal of classic horror films”, was selected by SODEC to showcase at Clermont-Ferrand in addition to 20+ film festivals.

His latest short, Wraith (2023), a dark fantasy inspired by norse mythology, premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival, winning Best Sound Design, and will screen internationally throughout fall and winter.

In addition to developing a first feature, Sam is currently shooting the anthology concept film Doomscrolling, combining phone addiction and surrealism, and directing and editing on Curse Words, a dark comedy series about a woman who is haunted by her teenage ghost. The project was selected for the IPF-CMF Development Packaging Program in 2023 under showrunner and producer Lee Marshall.
